From its beginnings in 2006 as a document supplier known as Reprints Desk, Research Solutions, Inc. has become a provider of cloud-based technologies to streamline discovering, accessing, managing, and creating intellectual property. Throughout their 18-year history, they’ve endeavored to serve researchers and research-driven organizations to help advance scientific breakthroughs across all disciplines. With the addition of companies such as Research Solutions, Resolute.ai, and Scite, their scope has shifted from a document supply service to a research support platform that enables cross-publisher discovery, access to leading scientific output, and research acceleration tools.

SSP spoke to Sharon Mattern Büttiker, Vice President of Publisher Relations and Content Strategy at Research Solutions, Inc., about why it is so important for them to be involved with SSP and the Generations Fund.
Why and how did your organization first become involved with SSP?
Research Solutions is a newly minted member. I’ve been an individual member since 2017 and have greatly benefited from SSP’s community-based educational and networking activities. With the acquisition of Scite and as the current co-chair of the Membership Committee, we believed it was long overdue for Research Solutions to join as an organizational member in 2024.
Why do you feel it’s important for your organization to be involved with SSP?
Our scholarly publishing community is sustained through engagement and action. SSP represents all sectors of scholarly publishing. Its core values of community, adaptability, inclusivity, and integrity underscore its efforts to provide opportunities for both leadership and career advancement at every career stage. Research Solutions can help support SSP’s continuing education, networking, and mentorship programs by engaging with the global scholarly community.
Why did you decide to support SSP’s Generations Fund?
The Generations Fund supports programs and initiatives contributing to a diverse and robust scholarly publishing workforce. Research Solutions’ respect, accountability, teamwork, and innovation values intersect with the Generations Fund endowment for our scholarly communications ecosystem. We’re eager to support the publishing community of the future, which starts now through mentorship and early career programs.

Why must the Generations Fund support the next generation through SSP’s Fellowship, Mentorship, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility programs?
It is precisely these programs that plant the seeds for future forests. Fellowship, mentoring, and DEIA programs create space and conditions for growth that may not be available.
