The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) today announced a new, co-sponsored Academic and Professional Publishing track at the IDPF Digital Conference at BookExpo America 2016 (May 11-12, McCormick Place, Chicago). IDPF Digital @ BEA is the longest-running professional conference for the digital publishing industry. This year’s conference will focus on the digital transformation of the overall enterprise of publishing. A discounted SSP member rate for the IDPF conference will be available when registration opens for the event.
“SSP is part of a large community that encompasses many formats of scholarly communications. Collaborating with organizations such IDPF allows the Society to expand our reach and maximize the benefits we can offer to our membership,” said SSP Executive Director Melanie Dolechek. “By co-sponsoring the academic and professional publishing track at IDPF Digital @BEA, we are providing our members with an opportunity to learn about and even influence forthcoming standards and interoperability protocols that will shape digital publishing for scholarly books and journals in the future.”
SSP Past President Bill Kasdorf DPF Board member and, VP Content Solutions Apex CoVantage, will serve as program director for the sessions in the new track, which will cover key digital issues that affect all segments of academic and professional publishing, including scholarly journals and books; scientific, technical, and medical publishers; and publishers of educational, training, and professional content. These sectors are, in some respects, far in advance of most other publishing sectors in embracing digital technologies, and yet in other respects have much to gain from today’s digital ecosystem– from content acquisition, development, and management to dissemination throughout today’s multi-channel, increasingly mobile world.
Speaker and session proposals for IDPF Digital @ BEA 2016 are solicited by Dec. 18, via email to Sally Dedecker at conference-programmin@idpf.org. For more information about IDPF visit idpf.org.
