Silverchair and Hum just released their third annual Publishing Tech Trends report.
Silverchair CEO, Will Schweitzer opens the report by outlining key themes that will shape the scholarly publishing industry in the year ahead, including rapid advancements in the applications of AI and a sharper focus on B2C.
“Continued market uncertainty, disruptive threats, and faster technology adoption will lead publishers to change or make greater investments in core systems and processes [in 2024],” predicts Schweitzer.
The report also features insights from a panel of 17 publishing executives and consultants:
Tim Barton (Hum), Marianne Calilhanna (Data Conversion Laboratory), Anjali Chadha (Maverick Publishing Specialists), Neil Christensen (Morressier), Emilie Delquié (Silverchair), Will Fortin (Hum), Christian Grubak (ChronosHub), Christian Kohl (PLOS), Ann Link (Linked Strategies), Phoebe McMellon (GeoScienceWorld), Tasha Mellins-Cohen (COUNTER), Dave Oakley (MEI Global, LLC), Lou Peck (The International Bunch), Colleen Scollans (Clarke & Esposito), Avi Staiman (Academic Language Experts), Heather Staines (DeltaThink), and Rory Williams (Rockefeller University Press).
“Each year, this report captures how publishers are thinking about these topics, both short- and long-term, and explores how they’re approaching and applying new or changing technology in the year ahead,” said Hum co-founder and President, Dustin Smith. “We’re excited to shine a spotlight on insights and ideas from some of the trailblazers in the publishing industry.”
