January 30, 2023 – Today, Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) announced a new transformative open access publishing agreement that will provide open access to new research conducted by Canadian scientists. This three-year agreement is an essential first step to a “made in Canada” approach to the publication of open access research, and will enable Canadian authors to publish with CSP, a Canadian not-for-profit publisher, with fewer barriers.
“CRKN’s vision is that ‘The world’s knowledge is accessible by all’ and we believe open access is key to achieving that vision,” states Clare Appavoo, Executive Director of CRKN. “Expanding our long-standing collaboration with CSP to include new open access publishing options in CSP journals is a great step forward for open research in Canada.”
The agreement enables corresponding authors affiliated with the 44 participating CRKN member institutions to publish free and unlimited open access in five CSP journals:
- Biochemistry and Cell Biology
- Canadian Journal of Physics
- Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology
- Genome
- Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering
Authors will also receive a 25 per cent discount on article processing charges (APCs) in 14 additional CSP journals.
“We believe the future of science is open and we’re committed to doing our part to get there,” says Elaine Stott, Chief Executive Officer at CSP. “Some of the best research in the world comes from Canada and we’re very excited to partner with CRKN to make Canadian research accessible to everyone.”
Based in Ottawa, CRKN and CSP are mission-driven organizations that aim to support research communities through open access. CRKN’s mandate is to advance interconnected, sustainable access to the world’s research and to Canada’s documentary heritage content for its 84 members and the diverse communities they serve.
