Initiative Supporting Ukrainian Publishing Resilience and Recovery (SUPRR) receives grant from De Gruyter eBound Foundation

The SUPRR (Supporting Ukrainian Publishing Resilience and Recovery) initiative has received a $10,000 grant from the De Gruyter eBound Foundation. This funding will help support SUPRR’s mission to galvanize assistance for Ukrainian publishing.

SUPRR is a new initiative to support Ukrainian publishing now and after the war. Its aim is to build a strong transnational community of publishers working together to match needs with resources. The initiative is associated with the Central European University Press.

The SUPRR initiative’s first report, a short overview covering book publishing, scientific, and scholarly journals in Ukraine, generated interest throughout the academic publishing industry. The initiative is also developing bespoke training programs for Ukrainian publishers wishing to modernize in line with EU accession requirements.

Other early backers of SUPRR include the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, the OAPEN Foundation, OASPA, Publishers Licensing Services, the Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI), and the Ukrainian Publishers and Booksellers Association (UPBA).

“We are thrilled to receive this grant from the De Gruyter eBound Foundation,” said Frances Pinter, SUPRR. “This funding will allow us to continue our work in forging links with publishing organizations that are supporting the goal of ensuring that a strong, modern and vibrant publishing ecosystem will flourish in Ukraine.”

“We want to offer our sincerest congratulations on this well-deserved recognition,” said Steve Fallon, Executive Director of De Gruyter eBound. “We are confident that this grant will provide significant support toward achieving the goals of the SUPRR Initiative.”

De Gruyter eBound is a non-profit foundation that supports mission-driven scholarly publishers around the world with the goal to make their publications accessible for a global audience. Support is given through various means, such as granting publication subsidies and help getting projects off the ground.
