Berlin/Boston/Princeton, 22 May 2023 – In partnership with Princeton University Press, De Gruyter is delighted to offer exclusive early digital access to the complete collection of world-renowned A. W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts ahead of their official print and eBook publication in August.
The exclusive pre-pub collection is available via degruyter.com immediately until July 1, 2023. It features all 46 titles in the lecture series, of which more than half have been out of print for some time, and only a few were previously available as eBooks. Seven of the eBooks in the series have already been published online.
For librarians around the world, De Gruyter is excited to provide access to all 46 eBooks with no DRM, reducing barriers to access by enabling library patrons to download, save and print eBooks for their own use. The collection is also easy to discover through MARC records, KBART files, and set up targets in all common discovery services.
Since 1952, the A. W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts have been delivered annually at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, and published by Princeton University Press in the Bollingen Series since 1967. Princeton University Press and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC recently announced a new print and eBook edition of the collection.
The A. W. Mellon Lectures have established themselves as one of the most important lecture-and-book series in the world since 1949. Collection highlights include Mary Beard’s “Twelve Caesars,” which explores the history of portraits of the rich, powerful, and famous in the western world, shaped by the image of Roman emperors, and Isaiah Berlin’s “The Roots of Romanticism,” which surveys the development of romanticism from its first stirrings to its apotheosis, and shows how it still permeates our outlook. Other acclaimed art historians and critics in the series include Jacques Barzun, T. J. Clark, and Richard Wollheim.
This collection is a must-have for art historians, critics, and enthusiasts, and De Gruyter is proud to provide access to these important works in digital format.
“The A.W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts is one of the most prestigious lecture series in the humanities in North America and we are delighted to be able to contribute to its dissemination owing to our long-standing partnership with Princeton University Press.
