January 30, 2014 – Brill and INASP signed an agreement to make Brill journal content directly available through INASP as part of Brill’s Developing Countries Program.
Brill and INASP signed an agreement to make Brill journal content directly available through INASP as part of Brill’s Developing Countries Program. Brill content is already included through EBSCO, but starting in 2014, the journal content will also be offered directly through INASP. Brill operates on a global scale and increasingly authors and editors are coming from developing and emerging countries for whom access to peer-reviewed, high-quality academic information is crucial. Offering Brill journals through INASP at discounted pricing will widen the distribution of Brill content and increase the impact of its published research. The titles available via Brill will be of great value to developing country researchers and policy makers as they comprise key journals in the Humanities, Social Sciences and International and Human Rights Law. Lucy Browse from INASP commented “we are very pleased to welcome Brill to the suite of publishers helping our partners put research at the heart of development. Sustainable access to high quality research literature remains vital to strengthen the global research cycle.”
In addition, Brill’s Developing Countries Program actively promotes AuthorAID, the global online network that provides support, mentoring, resources and training for researchers in developing countries. Brill draws attention to the AuthorAID service for potential authors and editors from developing countries and at the same time encourages Brill authors and editors to sign up as a mentor supporting these authors in getting published.
Liesbeth Kanis from Brill spoke of the cooperation with INASP during her presentation at the 2013 Publishers for Development conference, which brought together publishers from 16 publishing houses with librarians and researchers from a number of INASP’s partner countries. “The opportunity to network and engage directly with those we hope to reach through our partnership with INASP” she says, “has beens a fantastic start to the initiative.”
