Back by Popular Demand – SSP’s Journals Academy!

Following the outstanding success of last year’s inaugural program, we are excited to announce the return of the Journals Academy, a comprehensive virtual training initiative designed to equip new and aspiring professionals in the scholarly journals publishing industry. Building on the program’s positive reception, the 2024 edition will once again offer participants a deep dive into the essential aspects of journals publishing, spanning three interactive sessions totaling nine hours of expert-led training on November 19, December 3, and December 10, 2024.

The Journals Academy is crafted to meet the developmental needs of early to mid-career publishing staff, providing an invaluable learning experience to enhance their knowledge and career trajectory. This program also serves as a robust professional development tool for managers overseeing new team members, offering structured training in key industry topics that will accelerate their staff’s onboarding and skill advancement. Even seasoned professionals will benefit from refreshing their understanding of current best practices and gaining exposure to emerging trends in the field.

Developed by the Society for Scholarly Publishing’s Training Task Force, the Journals Academy thoroughly explores foundational and advanced topics in the academic journals landscape. Each session delves into crucial subjects, from understanding business models and journal finances to navigating editorial workflows, marketing strategies, diversity initiatives, and the evolving demands of open access and research integrity. Attendees will walk away with actionable insights that can be immediately applied to their daily responsibilities, helping to bolster their effectiveness in their roles.
