We are thrilled to announce our 47th Annual Meeting, “Reimagining the Future of Scholarly Publishing at the Intersection of Value and Values,” happening May 28 – 30, 2025, at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland. Proposal submissions for Educational Sessions, Industry Breakouts, Posters, and 5-minute Industry Previews are now open!
Although every year in the scholarly publishing ecosystem is a balancing act of innovation, optimization, and value creation, 2025 will be particularly challenging as the pace and scale of change are accelerating more than ever. There is increasing pressure to provide value to and meet the incredibly diverse needs of the global research community while maintaining financial health for our organizations, living our values, and continuing to protect the scholarly record. With AI, open access, integrity, and mistrust frequently dominating the conversation, we are in the midst of an unprecedented shift in our industry and society.
In this time of exciting opportunities and existential threats, how can we harmonize our lofty value-proposition-related objectives with the core values we believe in as individuals, organizations, and the broader scholarly publishing community to ensure a brighter future? How do we harness the power of collaboration to create a positive impact and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within our industry over the next several years? How will an AI-augmented scholarly publishing ecosystem impact the future of humanity, and how will the role of humans evolve? What are we trying to achieve with open access in 2025, and how or when can it be realized equitably? What real-world examples can we leverage going forward to improve integrity and rebuild trust in research?
We invite academics, funders, librarians, publishers, service providers, technologists, researchers, and all those with a communal interest and stake in disseminating scholarly information to submit proposals covering diverse scholarly publishing topics, from STEM to the humanities and beyond. Join us for an in-person learning and networking event! Access to the recordings will be made available after the meeting, along with ancillary virtual sessions featuring key speakers and members of the SSP community.
