Society for Scholarly Publishing (Re)launches Online Discussion Group for Industry Announcement and Events

January 4, 2017 – Wheat Ridge, CO – The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) invites scholarly communication professionals to join its Industry Announcements and Events online discussion group. The discussion group replaces the SSP-L list-serv and is part of SSP’s new C3 community platform. Announcements of conferences, events, or other resources of broad interest to the community are welcome. Press releases with newsworthy information of interest to SSP members should continue to be directed to SSP’s editors for potential inclusion in SSP’s various news outlets.

The online discussion group is open to the public, but users must register on the C3 platform to post messages. Users can choose to receive real-time notifications of new posts or opt for a daily or weekly email digest.

“The C3 platform is a considerable improvement over the technology that supported the previous SSP-L list-serv,” said Melanie Dolechek, SSP Executive Director. “Now, discussion posts are archived in a way that is accessible and searchable. Users can tailor new content notifications to their desired frequency.”

In addition to supporting the Industry Announcements and Events discussion group, C3 also supports SSP’s committees, task forces and other volunteer groups. Each volunteer group has a community workspace for communicating, collaborating and sharing resources. SSP members also have exclusive access to the SSP Member Exchange where they can share ideas, ask questions, and network with their peers.

“We’re quite enthusiastic about launching this new networking resource for SSP members and the scholarly communication community at large,” adds Dolechek. “Peer to peer networking is such an important part of professional development and the C3 platform is an ideal solution for sharing knowledge, information, and resources.”

To join the Industry Announcements and Events discussion group, request an account at info@sspnet.org. If you already have an account on sspnet.org, you can log in with your existing user name and password. Existing SSP-L subscribers have been migrated automatically to the new platform.

About the Society for Scholarly Publishing – SSP, founded in 1978, is a nonprofit organization formed to promote and advance communication among all sectors of the scholarly publication community through networking, information dissemination, and facilitation of new developments in the field. SSP members represent all aspects of scholarly publishing—including publishers, printers, e-products developers, technical service providers, librarians, and editors. SSP members come from a wide range of large and small commercial and nonprofit organizations. They meet at SSP’s annual meetings, educational seminars, and focus groups to hear the latest trends from respected colleagues and to discuss common and mutual (and sometimes divergent) goals and viewpoints.
