8th Annual Librarian Focus Group

Registration is now closed. There will be NO additional registrations onsite. Please contact SSP at info@sspnet.org to be added to the wait list.

Join us for the Society for Scholarly Publishing's ever popular "Librarian Focus Group." The 2012 meeting features a panel of leading librarians, with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience, primed and ready to answer the questions of publishers and industry vendors.

The digital future and managing the continued economic turmoil will be at the forefront of the discussion along with a range of other topics, including trends in pricing and licensing, the challenges of electronic resource management and preservation, the state of "open access," and how libraries are using mobile devices and apps.

As books reach the digital tipping point and electronic journals continue to add more functionality, far-reaching decisions are being made by librarians in regard to their collections. The first "all electronic" libraries are becoming a reality and more efficient exchange mechanisms are developing to reduce duplication of collections. With double-digit cuts in library budgets inevitable over the next few years, librarians are becoming increasingly radical in their reactions to price rises. Necessity is truly the mother of invention, and surprising new initiatives are being planned and executed within academic libraries - initiatives that publishers need to be aware of.

Space is limited and this program has historically been a sell-out, so don't delay in securing your seat.

2011 IN Conference - Presentations Available

2011 IN Conference:  Innovation, Globalization and Collaboration
September 18-20, 2011
Arlington, VA

Organizations operate today in a world of hyper-dynamic change.  Technological advances and shifts in global economic power are rapidly spawning new content creators, products, and consumers, which dramatically shift roles in the scholarly publishing ecosystem. This environment presents new challenges to publishers, societies, and intermediaries, whose value propositions are changing and who now must contend with new sources of competition for information and services.

Succeeding in the new environment requires that organizations retool and develop strategies and tactics that will help them surmount challenges and break down conventional conceptions and silos that still exist within most organizations.

The 2011 SSP IN Conference will take an INteractive approach to laser in on three critical themes -- Innovation, Globalization and Collaboration. Together, we will work through well-developed industry case studies and exercises, with industry experts delivering key learning objectives. Your participation in the IN meeting will help you navigate through these three big INtertwining issues. You will be able to use your own experiences as well as those of key peers to address these three big challenges. You will leave IN 2011 with an increased understanding of our changing environment and  tool kit to help take your organization successfully into the future.
