Society for Scholarly Publishing Launches New Web Site

Wheat Ridge, CO (May 2, 2007)—The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) today announced the launch of the newly redesigned SSP Web site (www.sspnet.org).

The new Web site was re-imagined and recast with the scholarly publishing professional in mind. Now operating on a fundamentally stronger technological base, the site features intuitive navigation, more focused content, and a cleaner user interface for enhanced usability.

Lois Smith, chair of the SSP Communications Council, remarked, “The new SSP Web site is much easier to read and, most important, makes finding information easier because of the clear navigation tabs on the home page.”

The new site will serve as a virtual locus for diverse audiences, ranging from scholarly publishers to library professionals to policy makers and the press. It will also provide an area for active participation, interaction, and engagement for the Society's more than 900 individual and organizational members.

Alix Vance, chair of the SSP Web Site Editorial Board, commented, “The new SSP Web site is designed to provide a technical foundation for our ever-evolving Society that will enable us to expand our online member services as our needs change. The site delivers a new look and new functionality, as well as a powerful back end, which is a critical building block for a forward-looking organization like SSP.”

SSP is directed with the support of a governing board, 15 committees, and hundreds of committed volunteers. Site enhancements designed to facilitate their interaction includes site statistics tracking, a new content management system, and a wiki-based virtual Intranet .

“Our new wiki-based virtual Intranet provides committee members with a tool to support their work and provides SSP with an easily accessible record of organizational memory,” noted SSP President Judy Luther.

The new site better supports SSP's future growth and increased relevance in the scholarly publishing industry.
