Description
SAGE Publications, a leading academic and professional publisher of books, journals, and electronic media, located in Thousand Oaks, California, with offices in London, India, and Singapore, is currently seeking a Marketing Manager, Journals.

The role of the Marketing Manager is to plan and implement effective marketing strategies for scientific and medical journals, with an emphasis on driving usage, circulation growth, and retention for both proprietary and high-profile, society-owned titles.

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Creation and implementation of marketing plans.
  • Develop detailed marketing plans will be for key titles.
  • Review and revise plans monthly.
  • Work closely with Books Marketing Department and colleagues in the UK office to integrate marketing activities and maximize sales of all divisions in US Journals Marketing as appropriate.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute direct marketing efforts.
  • Budget and forecast sales of assigned products and expenses on an annual and quarterly basis.
  • Monitor sales of assigned products and adjust marketing efforts and expense spending accordingly to ensure maximum sales and profitability.
  • Editorial and production input and support.
  • Ensure quality writing, editing, and proofing of all promotional copy for all titles in assigned disciplines/markets.
  • Manage and supervise staff or freelance writers as needed.
  • Travel to and represent company at 3-6+ conventions each year.

 

Requirements
Include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-4+ years proven experience in publishing or marketing, particularly in science and/or medicine.
  • Knowledge of controlled circulation publishing a plus.
  • Knowledge of library and consortia markets a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven project/product management experience preferred.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience helpful
