Penn State Press publishes approximately 75 new titles and 11 journals a year with a staff of 21. Its annual revenue exceeds $2 million. The press is located in University Park, Penn., which is in the State College metropolitan area, a university town located in the heart of central Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania State University invites applications and nominations for a creative and dynamic Director for the Penn State Press. The Director will provide visionary leadership and is responsible for planning, organization, and management of all phases of the publishing program and operations of the press. The Director will oversee the press’s long-range, strategic planning process to ensure both the highest standards of scholarly publishing and the continued fiscal stability of the press. In addition, the Director will partner in the planning and operation of the Office of Digital Scholarly Publishing (ODSP), jointly managed by the press and the university libraries, which provides an incubator environment for experimentation with new modes of scholarly communication. The successful person will report to the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications.

 

Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor of Arts degree plus seven years of experience with increasing responsibility in academic presses and scholarly communications. Desired: experience with acquisitions, production, and/or marketing in the humanities and social sciences. Proven success in fund-raising and development and the ability to develop internal and external partnerships. Advanced degree desirable.

 

Compensation
